Boston Gets Key Reinforcement for Championship Series

By Alberto De Roa, April 6, 2022

Information travels fast in the NBA, especially regarding the availability status of players. The latest news coming out of the league is that the Boston Celtics are expected to get ailing big man Kristaps Porzingis back for Thursday's Game 1 of the NBA Finals, according to Shams Charania.

The Celtics have emerged as one of the NBA's elite two-way teams this season, boasting the top net rating (116.0) in the league and the best offensive rating in the league (121.6). However, they have been dealt a number of injuries in recent weeks, including to Porzingis, who has been sidelined with a sprained MCL since March 8.

Porzingis' return is a major boost for the Celtics, who are looking to win their 18th NBA championship. The 7-foot-3 Latvian is a versatile big man who can score, rebound, and defend at a high level. He is averaging 22.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game this season.

The Celtics will face the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, which begin on Thursday, June 1. The Warriors are the defending NBA champions and are led by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
